Proper Skin Care Will Make Your Face Look Healthy Aand Radiant
In order to develop a good skin care routine, you must first
identify your skin type and learn about its specific requirements. There are
four skin types: (1) normal (2) dry skin (3) oily skin and (4) combination
skin. Normal skin is healthy, has a youthful appearance and is neither oily or
dry. Normal skin is clear, radiant, elastic, plump and smooth.
Normal skin care requires gentle cleansing twice a day.
Washing normal skin daily helps to prevent clogged pores and helps to remove
the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. If you are young
and have normal skin, a moisturizing cream is not necessary. The natural oils
produced by your skin seal in its natural moisture.
To cleanse normal skin, you should use a mild non-soap
cleanser. Cetaphil daily facial cleanser is an excellent cleanser for normal
skin and all other skin types as well. Cetaphil is pH balanced and does not
remove the skin�s natural oils. It is available in most drug stores.
Even if you have normal skin, you must protect it from the
damaging effects of the sun�s ultraviolet radiation. After cleansing your
skin, you should apply a lotion to your face containing at least a sunscreen
with an SPF of 15, especially if you will be exposed to direct sunlight.
Oily skin feels greasy and appears shiny on its surface.
Large, visible pores are characteristic of oily skin. Oily skin requires daily
skin care. You should wash your face at least three time a day with a
non-drying cleanser. If you wash your facial skin more than three times day,
you may cause irritation. Ideally, you want to use a cleanser that will get rid
of the excess oil without stripping your skin of its natural moisture. You
should avoid the use of fatty soaps.
You should avoid alcohol-based drying toners and other harsh
drying products. Such products may stimulate the sebaceous glands (oil

oily, you should consider using a clay mask at least 1-3 times weekly.

The hardened mask can be gently removed from the face with tepid (lukewarm)
water.
Combination skin consists of dry and oily areas. This skin
type is characterized by excessive oil production on the nose, the bridge of
the nose, and the sides of the nose. These areas are collectively referred to
as the T-zone. The pores in the T-zone are visible, large and may be clogged,
especially on the sides of the nose and chin. The T-zone is prone to acne. The
skin on the cheeks may appear normal or dry.
Good skin care for combination skin requires gentle
cleansing to the entire face, but no more than three times daily. After
cleansing the skin, you apply a non-alcohol-based astringent to the T-zone
area. For an excessively oily T-zone, you can use a mask. Rinse off masks are
excellent for combination skin.
However, the mask should be used only in the T-zone. Your
major skin care objective for combination skin is to keep the T-zone free of
excess oil, pimples and clogged pores without drying out the rest of your skin.
Also, you should not apply the masks around the eyes.
The skin becomes increasingly dry with age. Dry skin
deserves the utmost skin care. Dry skin feels tight, especially after washing.
Dry skin has no oily areas and appears dull and lifeless. For dry skin, it is
imperative that you avoid cosmetic skin care products that contain harsh or
potentially sensitizing ingredients.
Dry skin has to be cleansed properly and carefully. Proper
cleansing of dry skin will improve its overall health and appearance. Proper
cleansing of the skin removes dead skin cells and stimulates the renewal of
skin cells. You should not use cleansers that contain fragrances because
perfume ingredients are skin irritants.
You should always choose a cleanser that is mild and non
drying. If a cleanser leaves your skin feeling dry and tight, the cleanser is
stripping away the skin�s natural moisture protection mantle. A cleanser that
causes your skin to tingle and redden is not the right cleanser for you.
Exfoliating agents can improve the appearance of the skin by
removing the build-up of dead skin cells on its surface and stimulating skin
renewal. The market is inundated with cleansers that contain exfoliating
agents. However, you have to exercise extra caution in selecting the right
exfoliating cleansers. You should always select a gentle exfoliating cleanser
that contains synthetic microbeads that are uniform in size and not harsh on
the skin.
The mainstay for treating dry skin is to replace the lost
oils and prevent the loss of moisture from the skin. Moisturizers are
absolutely essential for people who have dry skin. Dry skin requires the daily
use of moisturizing creams or lotions. Moisturizing creams improve the
appearance and health of dry skin by plumping it up, making it softer, and more
supple. Moisturizing creams temporarily reduce fine lines in dry skin and
smooth the skin.
For good dry skin care, you should always select dry skin
care products that contain replenishing oils such as emollients. Emollients
prevent moisture loss from the skin by forming a thin film of oil on the skin
to prevent water in the skin from evaporating. Some of the common emollients
that are included in moisturizing creams specifically formulated for dry skin
are: mineral oil, petrolatum and lanolin.
If you prefer to take baths, an excellent way to hydrate
your skin is to add bath oil to the water. Bath oils leave the skin feeling
smooth and soft. If you prefer to shower, you can increase the moisture content
in your skin by applying a hydrating body cream.
You should always dampen the skin before applying a moisturizing
cream. The moisturizer will seal the water into the skin, thereby further
increasing hydration. Multiple daily applications of a moisturizing cream will
speed up hydration, especially if you have an advanced dry skin condition.
For optimum skin care, you should always eat a healthy diet,
drink at least 6 to eight glasses of water daily, and use a sunscreen with at
least a SPF of 15 to avoid damage to your skin from the sun�s ultraviolet
radiation. Ideally, the sunscreen should provide you with a broad-spectrum
coverage, meaning that both UVA- and UVB-protecting ingredients are present.
Regardless as to what type of skin you have, you must protect it from direct
sunlight.
