Exfoliating Body with body scrubs is one easy method to get rid of tan, dead cells and reveal soft, healthy and glowing skin. Body scrubs are also called as ‘body polishers’ and salt glows’ which unclogs pores, remove rough dry skin apart from refreshing. Exfoliation is very critical if you suffer from back acne; use a homemade body scrub once a week. Homemade body scrubs also opens your pores, detoxify them and prepares your skin to absorb for the later body treatment like body butter or lotion is absorbed quickly.

These Homemade body scrub recipes are very easy to make and results are great too. These exfoliate, polish skin, softens rough dry skin and evens out skin tone. The ingredients are handy and easily available in the kitchen.

Types of Body scrubs you can make at home: Salt Scrub, Sugar Scrub, Oatmeal scrub, Grainy scrub, Loofah scrub and Fruit scrub.

Basic Salt body scrubs at home:

This is a basic aromatherapy salt scrub; one can use creativity or even use essential oils according to one’s needs.

You will need:

  • 2 cups of Epsom Salt (It is easily available at drugstores or grocery shops)
  • 1 cup of Carrier oil (Almond oil, Coconut oil, Safflower oil)
  • 8-10 drops of Essential oil (Rose for soothing and Fragrance, Lemon and Neroli for Citrusy refreshing smell, Lavender for soothing and Peppermint for tingling effect on skin)

In a glass jar add a cup of Epsom salt, add Oil and slowly keep stirring with light hand. The mixture should be smooth and not goopy. Add essential oils and mix well and store away from sunlight. You can use this up within a week or two. You can try same with Sugar, simply replace Epsom Salt with a cup of Fine granulated sugar.

Warm vanilla Sugar body scrubs at home:

This scrub is edible and make sure you don’t eat this up.

You will need:

  • ½ cup of fine granulated sugar or grind normal sugar in a coffee grinder.
  • ½ cup of Milk powder
  • 1 cup of Warm Almond oil (Almond Oil is lighter oil that is well absorbed and will improve the penetration of essential oils.)
  • 8-10 drops of vanilla essential oil or 2 Tbsp vanilla extract.

Mix Sugar and Milk powder in a glass jar, add oil and form a smooth mixture. Add essential oil and store away from sunlight.

This is very soothing and sensual body scrubs and will make you feel like eating it. You can replace oil with Honey, to use during summer.

Almond Oil is lighter oil that is well absorbed and will improve the penetration of essential oils. While Milk powder is moisturizing and hydrating and works as exfoliater with Sugar. Vanilla essential oil or extract works for senses, releasing stress and calms mind and body.

Body scrubs using oatmeal:

This is an amazing exfoliator and makes skin buttery soft. This is a mild body scrubs and will help reduce tan and reveal even skin.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of Oatmeal
  • 1 Tbsp. of Honey
  • 1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil or solid butter
  • 10 drops of Lavender essential oil

Mix Honey and Oil/ butter and whisk till they are one. Add oatmeal to form a smooth mixture and add essential oil. You can store this up to 7 days.

Oatmeal is gentle on skin and a wonderful cleanser. Try this if you have extreme sensitive skin. This scrub will make your skin buttery soft and lavender will thus soothe your skin.

Red Lentil body scrubs at home:

This scrub is beneficial for someone who suffers from Body or Back acne. If you notice discoloration on your body parts, you must try this to notice visible results.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of Red lentil powder
  • ½ cup of Milk
  • ½ cup Rose water
  • 1 Tbsp. Sandalwood and Neem powder

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth paste, make sure you do not make it too runny.
Use it immediately! Scrub the acne and tanned areas gently.

The sandalwood has cooling effect on skin while Neem will work on the acne and red lentil will gently cleanse skin without drying. Milk is hydrating without making the skin oily.
Use it twice a week to get rid of tanned areas.

Oatmeal Rose Loofah scrub:

This is a very innovative and gentlest way of exfoliation and can be used every alternate day.
You will need:

  • An old sock or muslin cloth
  • ½ cup of Oatmeal
  • ½ cup of Fresh rose petals
  • ½ cup of Honey
  • ½ cup milk powder
  • 5-6 drops of Rose essential oil

Mix Honey, Milk powder and Oatmeal to form a smooth semi dry paste. If it is too runny, add some more oatmeal. Add essential oil and Petals and form a round ball out if it. The ball must not be too thick nor too lose, put the ball in the old sock or muslin cloth and tie the end with a ribbon, If using a sock just not the end.

Scrub yourself with the sock; squeeze it often to release the liquid oozing from the mixture inside.
This is a great cleanser and exfoliator with soft, rosy aroma.

Chocolate’s body scrubs at home:

This one is for all the chocolate lovers! Chocolate is rich in anti-oxidants and is beneficial as an
Anti-aging exfoliator.

You will need:

  • ½ cup of Cocoa powder or even your favorite dark chocolate’s 4 cubes
  • ½ cup of Milk cream
  • 3-4 drops of Chocolate sauce or essential oil

Mix Cocoa powder and milk cream and blend till it is an even and creamy mixture. If you’re using Dark chocolate cubes, melt them using double boiling method and add cream to it. When it is even, creamier mixture, add essential oil to it. This scrub cannot be stored and used up immediately.

This is wonderful exfoliator for matured, aging skin. This brings a warm glow and smells heavenly too.

Homemade body scrubs recipe using Fresh Fruit:

This is an innovative way of using Fruit for body, we always use fruits as face packs but now lets try for body.

You will need:

  • ½ Fresh fruit pulp of your choice. (Strawberry, Peach, Papaya, Pumpkin, Banana or even Apple)
  • ½ cup of Honey and Milk powder mixture.
  • 2-3 drops of Jojoba oil
  • Essential, if you want any.

Add Honey and Milk powder mixture to fresh fruit pulp to form smooth mixture. Add Jojoba oil and mix well. Use up immediately!

This scrub is enriched with anti-oxidants and wonderful option for dry, aging skin. This adds a glow to body with the usage of fresh fruit pulp. Avoid using essential oil and enjoy the aroma of fruit. This scrub does not feel coarse but it does exfoliation job quiet well.
