The most important thing about fall/winter foundation is realizing that you skin is different colors at different times of the year, self-tanner or not. Make adjustments accordingly! As soon as you feel like your summer foundation is getting a bit too dark for your fading tan, switch to a lighter color.

There is nothing worse then someone wearing the wrong color foundation (unless its also not blended well)!

If you have dry to normal skin, choose a hydrating foundation in the fall and winter months. These come in every form, from tinted moisturizers, to medium and full coverage formulas.

For a high quality, hydrating foundation that also has built-in SPF, I love Bobbie Brown’s Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15. Another great thing about this foundation is that its buildable, and can go from medium to full coverage.

I also love Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Foundation. This has medium-full coverage depending on how you apply it, and comes in 25 shades.

Both of these foundations are amazing. If your skin leans more toward the dry side however, I’d go with the Bobbie Brown.

Another great option if you don’t want change the type of foundation you are currently wearing is to just add a moisturizing primer to your makeup routine. I love Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer – Hydrating.

If you have oily skin, you want an oil-absorbing or mattifying foundation. If during the fall and winter months your skin seems to still be a bit dry, try adding a bit of your rich night moisturizing cream to your thinner day moisturizer. Then apply your foundation.

For an amazing mattifying, non-drying foundation, I absolutely adore Make Up For Ever’s Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation. It’s a shine-controlling, complete coverage foundation. Its also water-resistant, so it truly lasts for hours. I love this product for warm summer nights, but unfortunately it is to drying for my normal/dry skin in the fall and winter months. I hate putting it away in the fall though b/c it does do such a great job.

If you have combination skin, you’ll want to find something in the middle. A foundation with silica beads and lecithin is probably your best bet. The silica beads soak up oil on your t-zone, while the lecithin hydrates dryer areas like your cheeks. (**The foundations I mentioned above for dry/normal skin each have only lecithin, while the foundation I mentioned for oily skin has only silica.)

One great option is Bobbi Brown’s Skin Foundation SPF 15. This product is similar to the previous Bobbi Brown foundation I mentioned, but doesn’t have the heavy moisturizing components of that version. A plus is it still has the built-in SPF. This foundation is great for all skin types, but during the fall and winter months it’s especially great for combination skin.

My favorite powder EVER. Laura Mercier’s Mineral Illuminating Powder. If you love mineral powder like I do, but want something a bit finer milled and longer lasting then most other mineral brands, try this product. I swear by it.

Bronzer

Bronzer

Should I use bronzer in fall and winter? YES! A bit of bronzer swept over the face not only helps to give contour to cheekbones, but also give pale skin a bit of color, making you look healthier overall. Although its fine to use your bronzers with a bit of shimmer in them for nighttime, for a more polished day look, try a matte bronzer. It will look great on your soon-to-be creamy, lighter-colored skin.
